First settled about 1780. Formerly West Pond Plantation. Incorporated March 7,
1804, the 150th town. Population-1800, 244; 1830, 830; 1860, 864; 1870, 725;
1880, 606. Valuation, 1860-Polls, 180; Estates, $128,417; 1870-Polls, 167;
Estates, $149,731; 1880-Polls, 174; $129,857.
