The Daily Gazette [Utica NY] March 25, 1844
Joseph Conner was found nearly dead in a lane near the house of Arthur Counce, 
in Cushing, Me., on Tuesday evening, 12th inst. and died next morning. He was 
found lying upon his face, on the snow, his skull badly fractured. The 
Coroner's Jury rendered a verdict against Lemuel Counce, who was arrested & 
bound over. Rum was the cause - both being intoxicated.
