Mrs. Catherine Fairservice Sargeant of Sheepscot Village, Lincoln County, ME Mrs. Catherine Fairservice Sargeant of Sheepscot Village, on the Alna side see image at THOMAS FAIRSERVICE, aged 90 years of Sheepscot, Maine. see image at Mrs. Catherine Fairservice Sargeant of Sheepscot Village, on the AIna side, was 95 years of age the 15th of this month, (Aug 1905) and still retains both her physical and mental faculties to a remarkable degree. She is the daughter of Thomas Fairservice a soldier of the Revolutionary War, and belongs to the Bradley Fulton chapter, D.A.R., Medford, Mass., from which she has received the usual gold spoon to living Daughters of which she is very proud. She is intensely patriotic, of course, and has, through her influence and with help from her family, had erected near her residence a tall flag staff from which floats a lazy American flag. She has six children now living. She is a worthy member of the Methodist E. church of Sheepscot and able to. walk to the meeting from her residence. Her husband has been dead 25 years and Mrs. Sargeant has been active in attending to her business matters. Among other cares has been the erection of her home. She is now tenderly cared for by her children, two of whom reside in Sheepscot and two In Boston. She often makes the trip between these places. Mrs. Sargeant's eyesight is yet good as the piles of work she exhibits to callers, bear full testimony. She is the only D. A. R. (within the writer's knowledge) in this section of the State and the oldest person here living, certainly a most remarkable woman. The writer was well acquainted with Mrs. Sergeant's brother, Thomas Fairservice and visited him during his last sickness. He was an able, honest citizen or Sheepscot, very intelligent and reliable during his long life. [Note that Thomas Fairservice was born 23 July 1761 in Boston, MA, died 14 Nov 1849 ae 88. The Lewiston Journal said that the painting was of Mr. Fairservice at age 90, but he only lived to age 88 years.] [Newspaper clipping dated 23 Aug 1905 from the Lewiston Journal, courtesy of the late Robert Taylor of Danville, Maine] Enjoy, David C.
