ALEXANDER William Alexander, born about 1741, of Topsham, Maine, went to Boston to get his wife, Dorothy ? . He had planned upon his returned to live with his brother, but his sister-in-law refused to have Dorothy in her house. Dorothy and William went to Great Island, Harpswell, to live and had many descendants. Was Dorothy black? In 1850 in Scarboro, Maine lived Alfred Alexander, age 54, a black born in New Jersey with his wife age 50, named Altantic, also black and born in New Jersey. Their children, Ann J., age 18 and Albion were both born in Maine.
