Eight miles E. of Paris. On Rumford Falls and Buckfield R. R. First improvement made by Benj. Spaulding of Chelmsford, Mass., in 1776. Abijah Buck and Thos. Allen, with their families, arrived in the town April 1, 1777, and Nathaniel and John Buck with families,-all from New Gloucester, Me., later in the same month, and were the four first families settling in the town. Named for the first settlers. Former name, No. 5, or Bucktown. Incorporated the 81st town, March 16, 1793. Baptist church formed in 1821. First representative to general court, Enoch Hall, 1807.
