GRAFTON.

Forty-five miles N. W. of Paris, and twenty-two from Bethel Hill. On stage line
from Bethel to Errol, N. H. First settled in 1838. Formerly called Holmes; also
Letter A, No. 2. Incorporated March 19, 1852. The southern part of the town was
annexed to Newry in 1840, and was settled as early as 1820. Population-1850,
108; 1860, 111; 1870, 94; 1880,115. Valuation, 1860-Polls, 32; Estates, $23,298;
1870-Polls, 33; Estates, $26,675; 1880-Polls, 22; Estates, $25,857.
