Six miles S. E. of Paris. On Portland and Oxford Central R. R. Seven miles from
Mechanic Falls on Grand Trunk Railroad. Plantation name Shepardsfield, in honor
of the original proprietor. Incorporated 78th town March 6, 1792, and named from
Scripture. Oxford set off Feb. 27, 1829. Hebron Academy incorporated, 1804.
Population-1792, 550; 1850, 839; 1860, 895; 1870, 744; 1880, 601. Valuation,
1860-Polls, 207; Estates, $218,566; 1870-Polls, 165; Estates, $222,180;
1880-Polls, 146; Estates. $189,113.
