OXFORD COUNTY.

Originally the northern part of York and Cumberland. Incorporated the 7th
county, March 4, 1805. Large part of Franklin taken from Oxford, 1838; two towns
now in Androscoggin taken off in l854. Area, about 1700 square miles.
Population-1830, 27,538; 1840, 32,115; 1850, 35,463; 1860, 36,698; 1870, 33,488;
1880, 32,625. Valuation, 1860-Polls, 8286; Estates, $7,834,162; 1870-Polls,
8,390; Estates, $9,794,066; 1880-Polls, 8,810; Estates, $10,058,554.
