Subj: Charles WALKER, one of the Fat MEN of 1870 Charles Walker formerly of Rumford, Maine was listed on page Here is some additional information from Lapham's History of Rumford, Maine (c) 1890, page 260 Charles Walker, son of the Hon. Timothy & Luna (Abbott) Walker, was born (16 Sept. 1837) in Rumford (Maine) and spent his youth and early manhood in that town. When his father moved temporarily to Lewiston, he went with his family but did not return to Rumford. He studied law and established himself in Lewiston. He has been honored with office of mayor of the city, and was appointed by President Cleveland, postmaster of Lewiston, which position he still had in 1890. He was said to have been a square business man and held in high esteem by men of both parties in the city of his adoption. In 1890, he was said to be still loyal to his native town where his mother & sisters were living, and rendered material aid and encouragement to William Lapham in the publication of the History of Rumford, Maine. He married Augusta Patience the daughter of Orra and Phebe (Bumpus) Hall of Paris. Enjoy, David C.
