ETNA.

Seventeen miles W. of Bangor. On Maine Central Railroad. Settled May 27,1807, by
Phineas Friend and Benjamin Friend. First called Crosbytown, from the
proprietor, John Crosby, of Hampden. Incor. Feb. 15, 1820. Population-1850, 803;
1860, 850; 1870, 844; 1880, 895. Valuation, 1860-Polls, 196; Estates, $102,913;
1870-Polls, 185; Estates, $154,339; 1880-Polls, 216; Estates, $162,209.
