GARLAND

Twenty-five miles N. W. of Bangor. On daily mail route from Dexter to Exeter.
Settled in 1802, by Mr. Garland, from whom the town was named, and Isaac Wheeler
and Josiah Bartlett. Incorporated the 182d town Feb. 16, 1811. Population-1850,
1247; 1860, 1498; 1870, 1306; 1880, 1211. Valuation, 1860-Polls, 327; Estates,
$212,531; 1870-Polls, 316; Estates, $312,263; 1880-Polls, 343; Estates, $331,690.
