Hathaway Cemetery Transcribed by Hartley E. west Jr. e-mail hartleywest@hotmail.com Transcription date Sept. 30, 2003 The Hathaway Cemetery is located in the town of Garland in the County of Penobscot State of Maine on a country road. The earliest stone in the cemetery is dated 1810. The cemetery is mowed and some of the older stones were repaired but some are broken and lying on the ground. There are some stones missing this is noticed by the spaces between the stones and dates on each end of the spaces. There are 5 very large monument type stones here and about 10 larger family stones the rest of the stones typical of the era for the dates on them. To get to the cemetery you're starting point would be the Garland general store from there you take the Oliver Hill Rd for about 2 miles then right onto the Center Rd. then out about two and one half miles on the left is the cemetery. Some of the veteran markers in the cemetery say GAR this is for the Grand Army of the Republic. Most civil war veterans have this marker's in the cemeteries.
