French Hill Cemetery Town of Parkman County of Piscataquis State of Maine Transcribed by Hartley West hartleywest@hotmail.com This is a very small cemetery about 80 ft. wide and 80 ft. in depth and dates back to1815 earliest stone with the last burial in 1920. The cemetery is located about 1-1/2 miles north of the of the town of Parkman on the north side of the Road on Route 150. The cemetery is mowed on a regular basis. In speaking with a lady that knows about the cemeteries in Parkman had this to say the official name of this cemetery is not known but it located on a stretch of road called French’s Hill so this is how we refer to the cemetery. There are a few stones in the cemetery that are unreadable and looks like there could have been some stones missing. Same Stone Elias Merrill died Apr. 25, 1853 age 80 yrs. Polly his wife died Aug. 13, 1831 age 55 yrs. 5 mo. Polly wife of John Andrews died Aug. 22, 1832 age looks like 34 yrs. Mary Ann wife of E. Merrill died Aug. 1863 age 47 yrs. Same Stone Mr. Thos. Seabury died Oct. 17, 1827 age 66 Rev. War Veteran Marker Elizabeth his wife died Jan. 2, 1815 Emily C. wife of L.D. Warren died Dec. 23, 1861 age 23 yrs. 8 mo. Same Stone Tristram Warren stone reads born in the year of the independence of the U.S. 1777 died March 2, 1853 Sarah his wife died Feb. 1, 1852 age 77 yrs. John Cummings died May 1839 Ebenezer Cummings died May 9, 1872 age 76 yrs. Tamar wife of Ebenezer Cummings died June 2, 1883 age 88 yrs. Same Stone Peter Cummings died May 4, 1840 age 58 yrs. Sarah H. his wife died Feb 27, 1869 age 84 Lucinda A. wife of George Nicholes died Oct. 13, 1861 age 47 yrs. 9 mo. Mrs. Emmaline wife of Lewis Harlow died Apr. 14, 1853 age 41 yrs. 5 mo. 27 days Ann M. daughter of Lewis and Emmaline Harlow died Sept. 29, 1842 2 yrs. 4 mo. (this stone has fallen and is laying flat on the ground) George Harlow 1835 - 1920 Fred A. son of Mary Roberts died Aug. 5, 1873 age 2 mo. 5 days Eunice daughter of Abiathar and Ann M. Briggs died July 7, 1863 age 20 years Cyrus Briggs died Oct 5, 1862 age 21 yrs. Abiathar Briggs died Apr 5, 1875 age 75 yrs. 1 mo. Same Stone Eunice G. wife of Abiathar Briggs died Aug. 20, 1838 age 38 yrs Ann M. wife of Abiathar Briggs died Feb. 28, 1855 age 15 yrs. Wm. F.T. Briggs died July 29, 1861 age 26 William Cole died 1828 Mary J. wife of James E. Beal died Apr. 2, 1859 age 27 yrs. Josiah Maxfield died Oct. 10, 1875 63 yrs. 3 mo. Margaret Maxfield 1828 - 1898 (about a foot in front of her stone there is a smaller stone sunk into the ground could not read it was sunk in to far) This stone was all broken up but had a Revolutionary War Veteran Marker on it Same Stone Abraham Andrews died Oct. 18, 1864 age 84 Ruth his wife died Sept. 1813 age 22 yrs. Mary his wife died July 7, 1856 age 52 yrs.
