CHURCH HISTORY.
The church at Detroit is a union. church and was built by
the united efforts of the townspeople in 1866. It has been open
to preaching of any denomination; although the Methodist so-
ciety is the only organized church since early in the history of
the town.
The pastors since 1887 have been : John Tinling, 1887-
1890; Chas. A. Maine, 1890-1892; Wm. H. Dunnack, 1892-1893;
Wm. L. Brown, 1893-1897; Chas. E. Springer, 1897-1899; A. E.
Luce, 1900; T. S. Ross, 1900-1902.; Albert E. Morris, 1902-1904;
G. H. Hamilton, 1904-1905; B. W. Russell, 1905-1908; F. B.
Schoonover, 1909-1910; W. F. Emery, 1910-1911; M. A. Gor-
don, 1911.
The church was dedicated in 1868. The money was raised
by subscription and then the pews were bid off at auction. The
church is 33x48, 20 ft. posted and was modeled from the St.
Albans church. The cost was $3,500.
