There is an interesting war record concerning a number of brothers by the name of Hubbard who came from this town Frederick belonged to the Third U. S. Cav. and was killed with Custer at Little Big Horn, Walter and Ensign were working in the woods in Canada when Civil War began but left their job and came to Island Pond. Ensign enlisted in Co. K, 1st Vt. and was later transferred to Co. K, 3rd Vt. and 1st U. S. Vet. He was wounded four times, White Oak Swamps, South Moun- tain, Wilderness and White Oak Church. He served 11 years, 3 months, 14 days and is the oldest volunteer in Maine in point of service. He served in Texas against the French. Walter was killed at Liberty Hall, Va. Geo. A. Hubbard was Capt. of Co. K, 1st Louisiana Tigers and was killed at Gettysburg, Thomas and Freeman fought in the Civil War and Edward Hubbard, Sr. was in the Aroostook War. SPANISH WAR SOLDIERS.
