CHURCH HISTORY.
The Union church on the East Ridge road was built about
1850. The first pastor was Rev. Charles Stratton, of Sidney,
who resided in the town, but since that time for many years
the church has been supplied by pastors from the adjoining
towns.
The Methodist Society of Athens is at present carrying on
in active work in Cornville, mider the direction of Rev. Mr.
Milligan, the pastor of the Methodist Church of Athens. The
work was started by Rev. Mr. Alareh, who preached in Athens
from 1904 to 1908, and has been considerably strengthened
during the past year. In connection with this work there is a
Ladies' Aid Society of about 20 members.
