STATE NEWS - Somerset. The Journal says: The body of Moses Butterfield, son of Mr. Solomon Butter- field, of Fairfield, was found in the mill- pond between S. A. Nye's mill and the shore, about nine o'clock last Tuesday morning. He worked during Sunday with others upon the logs in the pond, and was seen to leave about four o'clock and was not seen there again. It is supposed that he returned and, stepping upon the logs, fell in and being unable to swim, was drowned. He must have sunk immediate- ly, for no cries for assistance were heard by any one. It was not supposed that anything had befallen him nor much alarm felt until Monday afternoon, when search was commenced for him. Tuesday morn- ing it was decided to drag the pond, and in about ten minutes after work was com- menced the body was discovered. The funeral services occurred at the house, Wednesday afternoon, and were attended by Rev. Mr. Hamilton of Oakland. His sudden death is a severe blow to his parents and they have the sympathy of the community in their affliction.
