PROTESTANT EPISCOPAL.

  The GENERAL CONVENTION, composed of 66 Bishops, and Clerical and Lay Deputies
from 63 Dioceses and Missions, meets at Philadelphia on the first Wednesday in
October, 1883.

  Presiding Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Rev. BENJ. B. SMITH, D. D., LL. D., Bishop of
Kentucky; Secretary, the Rev. C. L. Hutchins, Medford, Mass. Clergy, 3,466,
Communicants, 345,841.

DIOCESE OF MAINE.

  Organized May 3, 1820. First Bishop, the Rt. Rev. George Burgess, D. D.,
consecrated 1847, died 1866.

  Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Henry Adams Neely, D. D., consecrated Jan. 25, 1867:
residence, Portland. Secretary and Registrar, the Rev. Charles Morton Sills,
Portland. Treasurer, Charles S. Deake. Treasurer of the Diocesan funds,
(acting), C. S. Deake, Portland. Standing Committee of the Diocese, the Rev.
Canons Sills (President), Washburn and Upjohn, and Messrs. G. E. B. Jackson
(Secretary), H. Ingalls, and S. T. Corser.

  The Maine Episcopal Missionary Society, incorporated 1S35. President, the
Bishop; Vice-president, the Rev. Samuel Upjohn; Secretary, the Rev. H. P.
Nichols; Treasurer, Robert H. Gardiner.

  St. Catharine's Hall, Augusta, Diocesan School for Girls. Trustees, the Bishop
and fourteen clergymen and laymen. Principal, Madame Mondan.

  Clergy, 28; parishes and missions, 36; communicants, 2,170; offerings for nine
months, ending June, 1882. $32,838.99.

  St. Luke's Cathedral, Portland. Dean and Rector, the Bishop; Canons, the Rev.
Charles Morton Sills, the Rev. William H. Washburn, the Rev. Samuel Upjohn, the
Rev. Chris. S. Leffingwell. A free church, daily service, and weekly communion.
Communicants, 382.

  DIOCESAN MEETINGS FOR 1883. Board of Missions, at Portland, during convention
and quarterly. Sixty-fourth Annual Convention will be held in St. Luke's
Cathedral, Portland, on the second Tuesday in June, 1883.
