This graveyard is located on Beech Hill Road approximately 1200 feet northeasterly of the West Shore Road near the its junction to the Ferry Road. This cemetery is surrounded by 9" square granites, ot which there are 8 in number, connected todgether with about 3//4" iron rod. This Cemetery is not listed in Farrow. Stone #1 consists of 3 parts, all of granite, the lower part measuring about 22 3/4" square, the middle section measuring some 17" square, with a column of about 3' in height superimposed thereon. This stone contained the following names: 1. Clifford L. Clark - died October 18, 1861; age 1 year 6 months; 2. Ralph W. Clark - died August 1, 1865; age 3 years; 3. Mansfield Clark - died February 7, 1879; age 52 years and 9 months; 4. Auzilla B. Clark - died August 27, 1857; age 4 years and 4 months. Stone #2 was some 11 1/2" by 6" with the name Jessie thereon, in a raised fashion. Stone #3 was a oval stone some 9' high and 11 1/2" long with the inscription "FATHER". Stone #4 was some 8" side and 13" tall with the top rounded in the shape of an arc; the name "LITTLE ZILL" was inscribed thereon. Stone #5 was as stone #4 and marked "CLIFFORD". Stone #6 was as stone #4 and marked "RALPH" >From Farrow's "History of Islesboro": One should research the Coombs Geneology @ the IHS. Mansfield Clark, maried Elizabeth Coombs, July 15, 1840. He died February 7, 1879 aged 58 years. Children: Clarissa, b. August 2, 1843, m. Elisha Trim Cryella, b. July 23, 1853, d. 1856 Isabella F. , b. October, 1855, m. Dow Ernest M., b. August 18, 1874, d. ______ Juldah, b. 1872 Further investigation of the Pendleton Geneology revealed nothing further regarding the above names. This cemetery was well constructed, and has held up well over the past century, but now needs maintenance. Isabella F. Clark married Charles H. Dow and they had one child, Charles L., b. September 21, 1876. Orzilla Coombs was the daugher of Issac Coombs. Elizabeth, also the daugher of Isaac Coombs, married Mansfield Clark. A Rosilla Coombs, b. September 17, 1837, and daughter of William Coombs is said to have married John Clark. Three George Coombs names were found, but with no reference to Lavinia Clark. Elisha Moore Trim, b. September 22, 1837, m. Clarissa Clark, January 31, 1865. He moved to Stockton, then to Bangor, and was living there in 1893. He was a Master Mariner. Elisha Trim lived on land N/F of Duncan and/or Barlow; his father said to be Robert Trim PAGE 5 BEECH HILL BURYING GROUND - "BHB" On April 18, 1894 an inspection of the above was conducted. This cemetery has no walls, and is not well defined as to its boundaries, although the westerly sideline was once a stone wall prior to the wall being removed for the purpose of building the Ferry Dock in the mid-1930's. One could make an intelligent guess as to its corners, but this would leave a large depression found outside of those walls. This large depression look like a grave that has been moved, but no stone was found here. This depression lies some 50'+ northerly of the main grave numbered #1. The #1 gravesite seems to contain two graves side by side, with two - 6" wide by 20 1/2" white stones with arched tops probably at the head of each. The white stone(16 1/2" wide and 34 1/2" tall with arched top leaning against a tree) associated with these graves has but one name thereon as follows: Georgieetta - dau. of Lyman G. & Lydia J. Pendleton Died April 30, 1881 Age 15 yrs There is a poem inscription on the bottom of this stone to the memory of Georgieetta. At the top of the stone are the following words: "My Dear Sister How I Miss Thee"(in a semicircle). There are several depression elswhere within the area, as well as 4 limestone flat rock standing straight in the ground; another limestone rock was broken off flush with the ground; all southerly and easterly of #1. Further examination will undoubtedly reveal more, as we are talking about an extended area that the above rocks and depressions cover. >From Farrow's "History of Islesboro" and "Pendleton Geneology": Lyman G.(Green) Pendleton was born in Islesboro January 20, 1834 and died there August 7, 1899. He married 1st Lydia Jane Flanders. He married 2nd Mrs. Mary Rose Dodge, widow of Eben Dodge. By his first wife the following children: Sara(h) L., b. 18 Nov., 1855; unm. Betsey E., b 8 May 1859; m. (1), Silas M. Dodge; she m. (2), Charles N. Pendleton. Georgietta, b. 22 Jany., 1872; d. 1 April, 1886. Anne Jones Rolerson told MEG that Leslie L. Rolerson has been told by Linwood Pendleton that he, Linwood gathered up the remains at Beech Hill which were turned up when digging machine dug into graves of Linwood's family and that they were put in a box and buried at Pendleton Cemetery, but location unknown. DKP found no evidence that any machine had dug into any graves in the cemetery area proper. PAGE SIX
