Harris's Company C, Sixth Regiment of Me. Vols. who was enrolled on the tenth day of June one thousand eight hundred and (61) sixty one, to serve three years, is hereby discharged from the service of the United States, this day of August 1862 at Augusta, Maine, by reason of Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. (No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist.*) Said Marshall Thaxter was born in Machias, in the State of Maine is twenty years of age five fee, four 1/2 inches high, Light complexion, Blue eyes, Brown hair, and by occupation when enrolled a Lumberman. Given at Augusta this sixth day of August 1862. J. W. T. Gardiner Major *** Commander. *This sentence will be erased should there be anything in the conduct or physical condition of the Soldier rendering him unfit for the Army. OATH OF IDENTITY. Marshall Thaxter of Machias County of Washington and State of Maine, on this twenty second day of August in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty to, personally appeared before me, the undersigned, Justice of the Peace for the County and State above mentioned, Marshall Thaxter who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Marshall Thaxter who was a Private in the Company commanded by Captain B. F. Harris, in the Regiment of Volunteers commanded by Hiram Burnham that he enlisted on the tenth day of June 1861, for the term of three years, and was discharged at Augusta, Maine, on the sixth day of August 1862, by reason of Surgeon Certificate of Disability.
