LOCAL AND MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS James Brown at Pembroke, was arrested April 16, and lodged in jail on a charge of bigamy. Sanford, son of Henry Clark, of Machias, was badly injured in the head by playing with a gun a few days since. It is thought that he will lose the sight of one eye. Mrs. Ada M. Sargent has gone to Boston to look at styles, trimmings etc., and will return soon with a stock of goods for the Summer trade. J.J. McKeown, at Jonesport, does the awl and wax work, thread work very acceptably. He is always pegging away for the good of the soles of his fellow men and he makes his boots and shoes so that they wear well. The Sardine people and all other people will find him a reliable manufacturer. Fast Day, union services were held at the Methodist church at half past ten. Stores and business places were open as usual and little or nothing in the appearance of our streets to denote a day of fasting, humiliation and prayer. Is it possible that we as a people are degenerating from the virtue of our ancestors? James Keegan, brother of Peter Chas. Keegan, was burned to death recently in a mine in Colorado. Mr. I.H. Nickerson, of Calais, is quite sick in Georgia, whither he went a short time since to visit some friends. A little daughter of Mr. John B. Mitchell of Ellsworth, was out in the woods about two weeks ago, and it is supposed, ate some poisonous leaves while there. A day or two afterwards she was taken violently ill and grew steadily worse till her death which occurred on Thursday morning. MARRIED In East Machias, April 13, by Rev I. Hatheway, Stephen D. Nason, aged 60 yrs; formerly of Machiasport. In Harrington, April 16, Thomas Hayland, aged 85 yrs. In Eureka, Cal, March 20, Mrs Eleanor C., wife of Geo. A. Dauphiny, aged 51 yrs, a native of Robbinston. In St. Stephen, N.B., April 17, Geo. S. Bixby, aged 62 yrs. In Beddington, April 18, Adrian Abbott, aged about 79.
