Crocker has gone to Brunswick to attend the Medical school. W.H. Allen is improving in health; all the other sick in town are convalescent. Mr John Holmes at Marshfield, has been quite sick for two or three weeks. He is some better and hopes to be out again soon. Mrs. Stone, wife of Rev T.T. Stone, of Bolton, Mass, died Dec 27, Mr Stone at one time was pastor of the church at East Machias. Capt B.L. Smalley, at Cutler, has recently been appointed Notary Public. Harvey D. Hadlock, Esq, has removed from Bucksport to Portland. He is a lawyer; was a democrat once but isn't now. John M. Hale Jr, at Ellsworth recently lost his second son. It is thought that his death was hastened by a fall on the ice while skating. In Warren, Penn, Dec 26, Joseph A. Smith of U.S.Navy and Miss Mary H. Bartlett. Mr S. is a son of the late Geo. S. Smith, formerly of Machias. DIED In Machias, Feb 3, Charles Albee, aged 79 years. In Jonesport, Jan 3, Helen, wife of Chas. E. Wood(ard?), aged 37 years. In ? , Jan 24, Emma Foster, aged 80 years. In Cutler, Jan 28, Benj. R. Ackley, aged 65 years [my 3rd great-grandfather] In Calais, Jan 28, Ellen, wife of David Irving, [can't make out the age]; 30th, Capt. Isaac Purrington. Farm for Sale! Located in East Machias, opposite Pope's Wharf, on Rim Point; ten acres of land, two acres plowed and ready for wheat and potatoes; cuts five tons of hay; wood groeth on it enough to supply a family; house, barn and outbuildings in good order; mostly fenced with cedar; I intend to go West early in the Spring and will sell at a bargain.
