The information in this posting should keep everyone busy while my fingers recover from all this typing THE BOWKER FAMILY Levi Bowker came to Jonesboro from Plymouth, Mass, in 1789 or 1790, with Capt G Fellows. Subsequently he married Betsey (Elizabeth) Watts, sister of late Hannah Weston. Levi and Betsey's children were Watts, Lydia, Levi, Elizabeth, Hannah, Sarah, Deborah, Frederic and Mary. Watts married Lydia Stickney; Lydia married Otis Hanscom; Levi married Martha Crocker; Elizabeth married Simon Getchell; Hannah married Stephen Boynton; Sarah married Ellis Hanscom, Deborah married 1st James McKellar, 2nd William Bugbee; Frederic married 1st Mary Smith, 2nd Rachel Ann Dutton. Mary died at 17. Levi senior moved from Jonesboro in Spring of 1797 to Machias, settling in what is now Marshfield, on same site and house where late Simeon Getchell lived. His house in Jonesboro was near the shore nearly opposite the John Noyes place. He was a house joiner and built the house that Capt G Fellows lived in at Jonesboro: afterwards burned. He also built the first meeting house in Machias, on the same lot where Libby Hallis. Levi Bowker Jr. was in the Fort at Machiasport, August 1814, as drummer and Orderly Sargeant; the Fort under command of Col ? A. Morse; the immediate charge of the 16 raw militia in the Fort, given to Lieut Jabez Sanborne. Mr Bowker will be 86 Aug 20, 1881; faculties well kept, health very good. He and his wife have been married 59 years. Levi Bowker senior helped build the Fort and barracks on Sanborne's Point in 1812, '13. THE CAMPBELL FAMILY Col. Alexander Campbell married Elizabeth Nickels, probably at Londonderry, N.H., removed to Wiscasset, Me., thence in 1769 to Cherryfield and settled near the old ship yard on the East side one fourth of a mile below the Lower Corner. Alexander and Elizabeth's children were Fannie, Hannah, James, William, Samuel, Alexander, Betsey, Margaret and Polly. Fannie married Ambrose Snow. Their children were Jane, Robert, William, Ambrose, Mary. Hannah married Thomas Archibald. Their children were Betsey married Col Joseph Adams; Sophia married Thompson Lewis; Hannah married Isaac Patten; Susan married Charles S Hall; Thomas. James married Susan Coffin. Their children were James A. married Thirza Fickett; Richard C. married Sally Foster; Patrick H. married Louisa Smellage; Nancy married Col Joseph Adams (2nd wife); Catherine married Thomas Snow; Colon married Sally Ricker; Alexander F. married (1) Julia Patten, (2) Martha Campbell; Betsey married Weston Merritt. William married Jane Lawrence. Children: Hannah, John L, Betsey, Samuel, James, Ambrose, William. William and Jane's children: Hanna; John L married Margaret Lewis; Betsey married Gleason Ricker; Samuel married Elizabeth Shaw; James married Leoniece Nickels; Ambrose married Maria True; William never married. Samuel, son of Alexander, married Rebecca Wass. Children: David W, Alexander, Francis, Susan C, Nancy. There were five children who died young. David W. married Margaret Nickels. Alexander married Caroline Ricker; Fannie not married; Susan C. married J. Walker Moore; Nancy married John Q. Adams. Alexander, son of Alexander, married Abigail Collins. Children: Margaret, married James Ray; William not married. Margaret, daughter of senior Alexander, married John Foster. Children: Alexander married ____ Willard; Robert married Susan Murch. Polly married Robert Foster. Col. A. Campbell was a soldier of the Revolution. He was a Senator in the Masschusetts Legislature for about 27 years prior to 1805. He died in 1807: his wife died in 1811. James, son of Alexander, who was Judge, Court Common Pleas for several years, was a staunch Jeffersonian Democrat. Alexander, son of Samuel, was State Senator for one term, and for 35 years or longer at head of the well-known firm A. Campbell & Co. at Cherryfield. James Walker Moore, who married Susan C., daughter of Samuel, is a native of St. Albans, Maine, born in 1811. His parents removed to Orono. James W, at the age of 21, came to Cherryfield where he has always lived. He held influential place in the politics of his County; was County Commissioner for several years. He has been a successful business man and respected by a wide acquaintance. THE CROCKER FAMILY John Crocker a native of Lunenburg, Mass. removed to Annapolis N S. in about 1759. His first wife died at Annapolis. Among the "Original thirteen" who settled Machias were Westbrook Berry and wife. Mr Berry died shortly after coming to Machias. John Crocker married Westbrook Berry's widow. Mrs Berry before marrying was Jane Freeman and Jane the wife of John Crocker nee Berry was the first white woman who lived in Machias. John Crocker's children of his first marriage did not come from Nova Scotia, except the eldest son James; he came to Machias in 1769 and married Rebecca, daughter of Westbrook and Jane Berry. Paul and Betsey were the other first children of John. Rebecca was the first white child born in Machias. James and Rebecca's children were John, Betsey, Otis, Sally and Polly twins, Olive, Catharine, Mariner, Caleb, Hannah, Ulmer. John married Sally Berry; children were Harrison, S Gould, John died young, Thomas, Nathan, John, Mary, Rebecca. Betsey married Henry Lyons; children were Albert, James, Ludlow, William, Warren, Hannah, Rebecca, Amelia. Albert only is living. Otis married Sarah F. O'Brien; children were Lewis who died young, Helen J, Annette, Henrietta, Sarah E. Sally married Henry Thaxter; children, Harra, Jane D, Robert, Levi B, Laura E, A Wallace, Jane. Polly married Ephraim Whitney; children Otis, Emma, Arathusa. Olive married Wm F Penniman; children Moses, Laura, Jacob, Sarah, Mary Olive, Elizabeth, Hannah. Catharine married Col Wm Burnham; children Lewis, Job, Rebecca, Alfred, Sarah, Susan, Hannah, Catharine. Mariner married Martha Longfellow; children Alvin G, Mercy, Mary Jane, Hannah, Cyrus, Susan, Francis, Newell. Caleb married Cynthia Longfellow; children Caroline, Olive, Julia. Hannah married Amos B Longfellow; one child Mrs Lydia Heaton. Ulmer married Agnes Spear of Thomaston; no children, Mrs Crocker's second husband was the late Jotham Lippineott; Mrs L surviving. John Crocker senior married Jane Berry; children Simeon, Mary. Simeon married Catharine Watherhouse; children Oliver W, Stephen B, Jane F, Martha G, Abigail, Elvira, George, Enoch S, Mary. Oliver W married Lucinda Chaloner; Stephen B married Jane Starrett; Jane F married Wm Holmes 1st, Rufus Foss 2nd; Martha G married Levi Bowker; Abigail married Wm Flynn; Elvira married Sherburne Huse; George married Lucinda Harmon; Enoch S married Adaline Jordan; Mary married John F Harmon. When Westbrook Berry left Scarboro in May 1763 he took his only cow on board the scow with the emigrants. Before reaching Machias the cow fell overboard and was lost. THE COFFIN FAMILY Sometime about 1759 Richard Coffin and Mary Cook were married at Martha's Vineyard, Mass. They emigrated to Addison, Maine, about 1771. Richard built a small house near tide water on the westerly side of the Branch Stream, nearly opposite the place of the late Oliver Nash, now Harrison Nash's. Richard and Mary's children were Elisha, Matthew, John, Temple, Jane, Abigail, Susan. Abigail died young. The sons all came to Addison. Elisha married Ruth Cates; their children were Ambrose, Hanna, Leonice, Campbell. Matthew married Jane Wass; their children were Matthew, Susan, Richard, Abigail, Elisha, Mary, Betsey, Benjamin C, Permelia, Miriam, David. John married Phebe Coffin; their children were Sophronia, Hannah, Simeon. Temple married Ana Thorndike; their children were William, G West, Sophia, Charlotte, John B, Jos Adams, Jane, Betsey. Susan married James Campbell (known as Judge Campbell); their children were Archibald, Nancy, Patrick, Richard C, Catharine, Alexander F. (lives in Machias), Colon, Betsey. Jane married a Mr West. No family record is at hand of her family. Several of Richard and Mary's children were probably born at Addison. John Coffin, son of Richard,returned to Martha's Vineyard, and married Phebe Coffin, June 22, 1795. They afterwards settled at Addison. Barnabas Coffin who came from Martha's Vineyard, known as "The Quaker", who married Betsey Strout and lived and died in Addison, was a cousin of Richard the pioneer; left no children. -- Kenneth A.
