Due to the condition of this issue, the marriage and death notices are unreadable.] Jonesport Families A man by name of Hicks was no doubt the first white settler in Jonesport. He built a cheap house and made a partial clearing on the Point at Sawyer's Cove. John Sawyer married Mary Jordan; they came from Cape Elizabeth about 1780 and settled at Sawyer's Cove in Jonesport. Sawyer bought Hicks out, Hicks having paid the Commonwealth of Massachusetts five dollars for a Squatter's deed or title. John and Mary's children were - John married Mary Sawyer; Margaret married 1st Emmi Beale, 2d Barney Beale; Eben married 1st Hannah Sawyer, 2d Elsie Cox; Betsey married Jesse Brown; Rebecca married Nehemiah Sawyer. Mary married Thomas Kelly, Hannah married Thomas Oliver, Daniel married 1st Lois White, 2d Mary Bagley. John and Mary's children were Nathaniel, Mary, Margaret. Margaret and Barney's children, only Barnabas. Eben and Hannah's children--Phebe and John W; Eben and Elsie's children-- Hannah, Eben J, Joseph C, Sophia, Mary Jane. Betsey and Jesse Brown's children--John, Arthur, david, Emeline, Mary. Mr Brown lived at Milbridge. Rebecca and Nehemiah's children-- Eben, Oliver, Susan, Hannah, Betsey, Ann. Mary and Thomas' children-- Joseph, Margaret, Ephraim, Samuel, Thomas, Mary, Betsey, John, Henry. Daniel and Mary's children-- Lois, Daniel J, Levi, Rebecca, Lydia, Ann, Mary, Edward M, Francis. No children by first marriage. The Kelly Family Thomas Kelly married 1st Sarah Sawyer, 2d Emma Knowles. Kelly accompanied Sawyer and settled on Kelly's Point, easterly side of Sawyers Cove. Thomas and Sarah's children were Joseph, Thomas, David, Samuel died young, Abigail, Sarah, Betsey. Thomas and Emma's children-- Hannah, John, Benjamin died young. Thomas married Mary Sawyer, children--Margaret married 1st Freeman Steele, 2d Seth Lincoln; Ephraim married Olive Kelly; Eben married Mary Brown; Thomas married Ann Kelly; Samuel married Phebe Sawyer; Henry married Eunice Sawyer; John married Ruth Strout; Mary married Wm Norton. David married Dorcas Sawyer, children-- Rachael married James Bagley; Aaron married Rebecca Norton; David married Anna Cummings; Nathaniel married Sarah Norton; Elijah married Harriet Stone; Fannie married Thomas Doyle; Marena married 1st Thomas Bagley, 2d Samuel Aldrich. Abigail married Nathaniel Kelly; children-- Samuel married 1st Rosana Rogers, 2d Gustavus Fellows. Gustavus Fellows and Abigail had one child Sarah who married 1st John Rogers, 2d Stephen Reynolds. Sarah married Phineas Norton; Children-- Rodney married Emeline French, Esther married John Church. Betsey married Asa Beale; children-- Maria married 1st Thomas Wallace, 2d Eldad Alley; Eliza married John Alley; Abigail married Geo Washington Alley; Lydia married Joshua Alley; Hannah married Henry Falkingham; Edward married Mary Ann Church; Asa married Rebecca Church; John married Anna Kent; Hannah married Daniel Newberry; John married Elizabeth Crowley; children, Edward married Sylvina Hutchings; Julia married but never lived in Jonesport after; Ella never married. The Beale Family Manning Beale came from Old York about same time the other first settlers came to Jonesport, Beale settled at "Beale's Eddy" on Beale's Island. Name of his wife not known. Their children were Jeremiah, Manning, Asa, Lucy, Sarah, Barney, Emmi, Olive Betsey. Jeremiah married Mariam Coffin; children- Freeman, Fannie, Thomas, Emmi, Mariam. Manning did not marry. Asa married Betsey Kelly, children- Asa, Edward, Uriah, Hannah, Abigail, John. Lucy not married. Sarah married Elihu Norton; children- Phineas, Abraham, Emma married John Noyes of Jonesboro. Joseph, William, Fannie, Sarah, Lucy. Emmi married Margaret Sawyer; Emmi died shortly after. Barney married Margaret Sawyer; one child Barney. Thomas W married Mary Sawyer; children- William, Sophia, Thomas W, Barnabas, Ephraim, Reuben. William died at Franklin, La. during the late Civil war. Olive married Joseph Kelly; children- Emmi, Warren, Olive, Josephus, Ann, Allen, Barney. Betsey married Joseph Bryant; Children- Otis, Olive, Sally, Asa. Ken] The Cumming's Family Thomas [Someone hand wrote on the original of the copy I have, and Thomas is crossed out and a name beginning with "F" is written above Thomas] Cummings who married Mercy Kelly sister of Thomas Kelly the first settler, removed from Damariscotta, Me. one of the earliest settlers at Jonesport. Their children were Samuel, Anna, Mercy, Lydia, Francis, Thomas, Mary. Samuel married Elizabeth White; children- Anna married Ichabod Farnsworth; Mercy married Wm S Hall; Lydia married Thomas Farley; Francis married Mary Kelly; Thomas married Hannah White; Mary married John Marston. The Rogers Family Prince Rogers married Lydia Carr. They came to Jonesport from Montville in 1804; settled at Flake Point below Mason's Bay. Their children were Moses, Betsey, Prince, Daniel, Margarey, Rosana, Nancy, John, Esther. Moses married _________ Tibbetts at Bristol, Me. Betsey married Isaac Farnsworth; Prince married 1st Catharine Enos, 2d Olive Drisko; Daniel married Abigail Fellows; Margarey married Francis Smith; Rosana married Samuel Kelly; Nancy married Otis Smith; John married Sarah Fellows; Esther married Jeremiah Donavan. Mr William Dobbin now living, (June 17, 1881) at the great age of 93 years, married Mariam Beale; their children are George, Jeremiah, William, Jefferson, Daniel, James, Sophronia, Catharine, Susan, Margaret, Calista. William Dobbin came from Falmouth in 1812 or about that time. Thirteen of Them Sometime about 1790 there were thirteen revolutionery soldiers living in Harrington, mostly at Mill river and on the Easterly side of the Narraguagus river. Richard Collins settled on the telegraph road in what is now the Northwest corner of Milbridge. He died in 1828. His son R. Collins Jr. settled on what is now called the Hanson Farm, owned by J A Milliken, Esq., about a mile below Cherryfield on the East side. R Collins Jr. was father of Bradbury Collins who was Sheriff several years, about 40 years ago. James Fickett, who settled near Collins' old farm married Mary, daughter of Silas Howill of Portland. James was a son of Benjamin Fickett. James and Mary's children were- Emma married Asa Leighton; Cynthia married John Lowell; Joanna died young; Silas married Lois Strout; James married Mary Stewart; Patrick married Mary Leighton; Benjamin married Ruth Putnam; George married Lydia Grace. Zebulon Fickett, a soldier under Washington, came to Harrington in 17?6, now NW corner of Milbridge. Zebulon married Sally Fickett before they removed from Falmouth. Sally's grave is near where Zebulon lived on the original Collins farm. There is no head stone. Zebulon and Sally's children were- Ezekiel married Fannie Dinsmore; Ephraim married Lydia Trott; Deborah married Jonathan Watson; Polly married Ezekiel Kellogg; Nathaniel married Mary Rumery; Clarrisa married James Carlow; Susan married Levi Sargent; Betsey married John Cullen; Abigail married Barnabas Strout; Otis married Sally Merritt; Daniel married Cynthia Wing; Harriet married Baptist Lawn. -- Kenneth A.
