Dill) I am going to try and finish off the postings from the 1881 Machias Union newspaper (Machias, Washington County, Maine) Things have been crazy around here for the past couple of months so the postings had to stop for awhile. From Jonesport Edmund Alley, aged about 15 years, was drowned Nov 20 by upsetting his boat. Nov. 21, Calvin Beale, aged 34, was drowned while crossing the Reach. His boat was upset by a heavy sea; leaves a widow and six children. Local and Miscellaneous Items Wm. T. Hilliard died at Bangor Nov. 20 aged 74. Mr. John M. Jenks formerly of Machias died at East Boston Nov. 11, at the age of 60 years. Samuel Longfellow killed a hog Nov. 25 that weighed 770 pounds; well dressed. The heaviest porker ever killed in Machias, probably. Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Farnsworth at Pembroke, celebrated their Crystal wedding, Nov 14. A large party of friends were present and the occasion was made a very pleasant one. The Governor recently appointed John F. Lynch, C.B. Donworth, Machias, Justices of Peace; D.T. Mooney, Lubec, Leonard Fisher, Charlotte, Trial Justices; William F. Plummer, Addison, Notary Public. Mrs. Elizabeth Wakefield at Elk Rapids, Mich. recently became blind in one of her eyes by paralysis of the optic nerve. Mrs W. formerly belonged in Cherryfield, widow of the late Ambrose Wakefield.
