Chicago: Chapman Bros., 1892. FRED WADE. This gentleman, who is the proprietor of the Lake Shore Commercial, is also the popular Postmaster of the village of Saugatuck, receiving his appointment during the present administration of Gen. Harrison. He is the son of GEORGE and MARY E. (UPDYKE) WADE, natives of Canada and New York, respectively. His father was one of the pioneers of Allegan County, and laid out the village of Douglas which was at first named Dudleyville, after an uncle of the subject of this sketch. The subject of this sketch was born in Allegan County, June 29, 1862, and was educated at Douglas, afterward graduating at the High School at Fremont, this State, in the Class of '79. He learned the printer's trade and in 1886 bought the paper which he is at present conducting. He is a man of ability and has been successful in his enterprise. In October, 1883, Mr. WADE was happily married to Miss IDA NIES, and to them have been born one son, FRANK. In politics, Mr. WADE is a Republican, and does what he can in the interest of that party. Socially, he is a member of Lodge No. 328, A.F. & A.M., and also of the Knights of Honor.
