Leighton formerly of Otsego, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2001 in Plainwell. Mrs Leighton was born December 6, 1918 in Pine Grove Township, VanBuren County, the daughter of Harley and Cecil (Becker) Graham. She graduated from Gobles High School. In her early years Dottie was a 4-H leader in the Otsego area and organized horse shows. For many years she was employed as an Occupational Therapist at Plainwell Sanitarium and then as an Admission's Clerk at Allegan General Hospital, retiring in 1977. After her retirement she did volunteer work in Christian Service Ministries in Kentucky from 1977 -1981. While in Kentucky she was a 4-H leader, directed church youth groups in the rebuilding of homes, and started several projects including a library bus for rural areas, a food pantry, a clothing distribution center, and an Alcoholics Annonymous Group. She also led services and played the organ at the Old Buck Church. In 1981 she moved to Auburn Hills, where she spoke to church groups and other organizations in support of CSM. She was a member of the Ecumenical Minister's Association, an active member and Elder of the Plainwell Presbyterian Church, the Auburn Hills Presbyterian Church and the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Portage. On June 15, 1936 in Otsego she married Everett E. Leighton, who died October 12, 1974. Also preceding her in death were brother, Glen Graham in 1978; and a sister, Dorothy Green, in 1985. Surviving are 3 daughters; 9 grand children, ;12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends fron 2-4 and 6-8p.m. today at the Winkel Funeral Home where services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m., Rev. F. William Palmer officiating. Interment will be at Earl Cemetery, Pine Grove Township. Memorial Contribbutions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Mission Fund.
