He was the youngest child of Samuel and Hannah Leighton. Out of a family of nine children four survive him. He was first married to Minnie Richard of Plainwell, who died March 27, 1898 and to this union four children were born. Fred, who lived to be 16 months old; Natalie, now living in Shelbyville; Ruth, lately deceased, and William of this city. His second marriage was to Mrs. Cora Cooley. Three children were born to them, Mildred, who died at the age of six. Four years ago his health started on the decline and since he has suffered almost constantly. He was very patient although anxious to recover. Deceased was an honest, hardworking man and square in his dealings; a devoted husband an father. He lived the greater part of his life in this vicinity and was highly respected. He leaves to mourn besides his immediate family a host of relatives and friends. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and that order conducted the burial service at Mountain Home Cemetery. The discourse was delivered by Rev.T.H. Carey Paster of the Baptist Church.
