Sidney E. Shears
Born: 1853, Ohio
Died: Feb. 23, 1934;  at his home on W. Hammond street of this city (Otsego)
Age: 80 years, 9 months, 15 days,.  
Married: Miss Alvira Dymon, Aug. 18, 1872
Alvira died: Nov. 15, 1888
“To this union six children were born, Mrs. Rose Van Lent and William of 
Otsego, and John of Gladwin, Isabel, Oliver and Fred deceased.  Besides his 
three children he leave a brother, 11 grand children and 8 great 
grandchildren.”  
Residence most of his life: Otsego
Funeral services: Benson chapel Monday afternoon
Officiating: Rev. Martin Raab of Grand Rapids
Burial: Mountain Home cemetery.

Sidney E. SHEARS was the son of John SHEARS and Malinda SHAW and was born 8 
May 1853, Sheffield Twp., Ashtabula Co., OH.  His siblings were twins, 
Mindard/Minard D. and Minerd/Minard C. SHEARS; William B. SHEARS; Adelbert 
Delos SHEARS, Franklin “Frank” James SHEARS and Luther M. SHEARS. Alvira’s 
surname is also spelled DYMOND and her first name is sometimes spelled 
Elvira.  Sidney’s daughter, Isabelle M. SHEARS, was the wife of Fred POTTER.
