He is a native of Canada, and came to Alpena in 18&'6. For two or three years after coming here he was in the employ of Mr. Hyatt, who at that time carried on a bakery in the same building that Mr. Kesten now occupies. In 1869 Mr. Kesten started business for himself on River Street. In 1876 he bought out Geo. Master's bakery and confectionery business, and since then has occupied his present quarters on Water Street, where he first worked for Mr. Hyatt, in 1866. The building he uses for a barn was the first permanent house built in Alpena. He has a wife and five children, and is a member of the Masons and Good Templars.
