Ethel Christopherson Ethel Christopherson, 99, formerly of 200 Long Rapids Plaza, died Tuesday (April 14) at the Bloomberg Foster Care Home in Ossineke. Born June 13, 1892, in Long Rapids to Alexander and Alma Nevins, she began teaching at rural Long Rapids one-room schools at age 17. On Dec. 10, 1912, she married Carl Christopherson at Leer Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1966. She and her husband lived in Detroit for 10 years before returning to Long Rapids Township. Mrs. Christopherson moved to Alpena in 1984, was a member of Leer Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid Group and enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. Surviving are two sons, Andrew of Leer and Ivan of Greenwood, S.C.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two sons, Mason and Neil; tow sister, Myrtle Donald and Edith Godfrey; and three brothers, Neil, Alex and Howard Nevins. Friends may call after 2 today at the Wachterhauser Funeral Home and from noon until the 2 p.m. Thursday funeral at Leer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Victor Slayman will officiate.
