Alex Nevins, 82, 2368 Church in Long Rapids, died Sunday (July 31) at home
following an extended illness.

Born May 31, 1901 in Long Rapids Township, he was a lifelong resident of the
area and engaged in dairy farming until his retirement in 1967.

Mr. Nevins served as treasurer on the Long Rapids School Board for 32 years and
also was caretaker of the Long Rapids Hall for several years.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two sons, Earl of Long Rapids and Gerald of
Midland; three daughters, Vivian (Mrs. Thomas) Lewis of Long Rapids, Lavada
(Mrs. Cliff) Miller of Alpena and Faye (Mrs. Don) Thomson of Virginia; and two
sisters, Ethel Christopherson and Myrtle Donald of Long Rapids.  Twenty-three
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Nevins was a member of Long Rapids Congregational Church and also an avid
golfer and bowler.

The body is at Bannan Funeral Home were friends may call after 7 p.m. At noon
Wednesday the body will be taken to Long Rapids Congregational Church until time
of service at 2 p.m.  Pastor George Burrows will officiate, with interment in
Long Rapids Cemetery.
