Smarscz - The News, Alpena, Michigan Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1942 John J. Smarscz, aged 67 years, died Sunday, Oct. 25, at Traverse City where he had been under medical treatment the past two months. He was in an automobile accident in 1935, suffering a skull fracture, and never fully recovered from its effects. The body of Mr. Smarscz is at the Williams funeral service where it will remain until funeral services Wednesday at 9 at St. Mary church, the Rev. Dean John E. Gatzke officiating. Interment in Holy Cross cemetery. Mr. Smarscz was born in Berea, Ohio, June 18, 1875, and came to Posen with his parents when a small child. He resided in Posen and Alpena and vicinity until after his marriage when he resided for periods in Flint, Saginaw and Bay City. He returned to Alpena about six years ago. He was formerly connected with George Smith in the Northern foundry W. Miller street. Mr. Smarscz's first marriage was to Frances Buczkowski who died 31 years ago. His second marriage was to Josephine Mointette. Surviving Mr. Smarscz are his wife, Josephine, Detroit; five children, Mrs. Albert Behringer, Buffalo, N.Y.; Frank Smarscz, Flint; Mrs. Bell Ware, Mrs. Harry Byrd, Detroit; Miss Clara Smarcz, Florida; two brothers, Andrew, Bay City and Frank, Port Huron; two sisters, Mrs. Casimir Centala, Detroit; Mrs. Beatrice Blake, Flat Rock, and nine grandchildren. Among those in the city for the services are Frank Smarscz, Mrs. Bell Ware, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Byrd, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Smarscz, Frank Smarscz, Mrs. Casimir Centala and Mrs. Beatrice Blake. Obituary - Mrs. J. Smarszcz, Alpena Argus, March 15, 1911 Wife of Business Man Died This Morning from Typhoid Fever Frances, wife of John Smarszcz, died at her home on River street at 11:30 Friday morning from typhoid fever, following an illness of 12 days. She was 31 years of age and is survived by the husband, who is a member of the Northern Foundry Co., and six children, the oldest 12 years of age and the youngest 15 months. Her mother, Mrs. Mary Buczkowski of this city, is living. There are four sisters, Mrs. M. Bienza of Milwaukee, Mrs. Paul Heavalt of Detroit, Mrs. Frank Hinielewski and Miss Antoina Buczkowski of Alpena, and three brothers, Joseph and John of Alpena and Anthony of Milwaukee. Mrs. Smarszcz collapsed suddenly and passed away in a few minutes. The funeral was held Monday morning from St. Mary's church. dz
