Mr. Gauthier was born in St. James, Province of Quebec, May 19, 1837, coming to northern Michigan and locating his family in L'Anse in 1880. Late in 1888 he filed on a homestead in the Peklie district, that section open to entry, and with a number of other settlers did much to open up that section, being one of the first to move his family there. After several years he moved to Barage, having resided in the county for 44 years. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Isaac DeCormer of L'Anse, Joseph of Duluth, Middy of Newport, Michigan, Alphonse, Delia and Adalore of Baraga, Mrs Archie Woods of Houghton and Mrs. August LaCasse of Calderwood. The funeral was held Monday morning in St. Anne's church, Rev. Fr. Douenberg officating. The remains were buried in the family lot in Baraga cemetery.
