Harris, of Houghton, widow of the late William Harris, a former prominent merchant of this town. The deceased had been unwell for some time past, and had spent last winter with her daughter, Mrs. W.J. Ryan, at Denver, Col., for her health, returning to Houghton in the spring, since which time her health has gradually failed. Mrs. Harris was born in England, December 8, 1828, and was married to the late William Harris, July 4, 1850. Coming to this country and settling in Houghton in 1854, she has resided here since that time. Mrs. Harris has been a widow since May 31, 1885. She leaves eight children - four sons and four daughters - Mrs. J.B. Smith and Mrs. J.G. Turner, of L'Anse, Mrs. W.J. Ryan of Denver, Col., and Miss Fannie Harris, W.H. Harris, J.C. Harris, S.T. Harris, and W.R. Harris, all from Houghton. Mrs. Harris was a warm-hearted, hospitable English lady, whom everybody liked and respected, and leaves a large number of friends to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, last Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the remains were interred in Forest Hill cemetery. - Houghton Gazette File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/baraga/obits/h/harris33724nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
