Although her case had been almost hopeless for some days, yet her death cast a pall of gloom over the entire community, and many a heart throbbed in sympathy with the breaved [sic] relatives. In the death of Mrs. Higgins Baraga loses one of its most esteemed ladies, [to] two little children a devoted mother, and [to] a fond husband a loving a faithful wife. Mrs. John Higgins was born at Mendon [Minden City?], Sanilac county [St. Joseph County?], MI, June 30, 1861, and was therefore just thirty years of age, at the time of her death, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. William Thompson. She was married in 1864 to Mr. Higgins, who was then, as now, superintendent of Thos. Nester's extensive lumbering operations on the Upper Peninsula. Three children were born to them, two of whom are now living aged four and two years respectively. The remains were taken to Mendon, Wednesday morning for internment and the last sad rites performed at that place yesterday. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction. Additional Comments: There seem to be multiple grammatical errors in this obituary.
