L'Anse Sentinel   May 2 1924
Mrs Marie A. Matthews died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. 
J.T. Collins, at Hartford, Wis., after a brief illness.  She was a former 
resident of Keweenaw Bay, where she resided for years, leaving here 5 years 
ago.  In her death this community loses another of those early settlers who 
did much to develop this section.  

The remains arrived Monday at Assinins. Services were held in Holy Name 
church, Rev. Fr. Douenberg officating.  The remains were laid at rest in the 
Assinins cemetery.

Her daughter, Mrs Collins, acompanied the remains here and with a son, Henry, 
are the only survivors.
