While engaged unloading logs from the cars for De Haas & Powell, at the merchandise dock, last Sunday morning, a man named William Smith was almost instantly killed. He was working in front of the logs with a cant hook, rolling the logs down, but failing to get out of the way in time some of the logs rolled upon him, fracturing his skull and crashing his body in a frightful manner. He expired in a few minutes. He was a single man from Canada, but there is little known of his antecedents or the whereabouts of his family if he has any.
