The deceased was born in England but removed to this country with his family in 1867. Until about four years ago he lived at Houghton and Copper Harbor and was employed as engineer. His health failing him he was obliged to quit working at his trade and four years ago moved to L'Anse. He was the first engineer of the tug Mentor which was at that time owned by A.G. Shields, his brother-in-law, and George Churches. He leaves a widow and numerous relations and friends to mourn his loss. He was an affectionate husband, a true friend and a good citizen.
