These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. _____________________________________________________________________________ JAMES HENRY DURKEE [Obituary from scrapbook of Climena Schaibly, in possession of George Schaibly, Woodland, MI] OBITUARY James Henry Durkee was born in Carlton township, Barry County, Michigan, Sept. 8, 1843, and died at his home in Woodland, Jan. 16, 1915, aged 71 years, 4 months and 8 days. When a young man he answered his country's call and served in Company C, 13th Michigan infantry until the close of the war when he received an honorable discharge. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Myers of Woodland township Feb. 6, 1875, and they settled on the farm which has since been their home; except a year which was spent in Woodland until last fall when he sold the farm and bought a home in the Village. There was born to his union five children, one son and four daughters, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining children are Mrs. Henry Schaibly, Mrs. Jesse Demund (sic) and Mrs. Harry Decker.
