The submitter has given permission to the MIGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. _____________________________________________________________________ William England March 11, 1932 William England, 99, Civil War veteran and pioneer resident of Michigan, died last night at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Gaunt, in Grandville. He had been active until last summer. Born on Christmas day, 1832, in England, he came to America at the age of 8 and for many years resided near Battle Creek., where he was widely known as a hunter and where he helped build one of the first railroads connecting that section with Detroit. Prior to making his home with his granddaughter five years ago, he resided at Gun Lake, near Shelbyville. He leaves two sons, Elmer of Grand Rapids and George of Gull Lake; three daughters, Lottie Huntley of Chicago, Nettie Carlson off Gun Lake and Emma Bross of Kalamazoo; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The body will lie in state Saturday at the Hildreth mortuary in Grandville prior o services and burial Sunday at Orangeville , near Gun Lake.
