Sample, who was found dead at her home on Sherman street about 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning. Mrs. Pearl Lane, who lives in a part of the Sample residence, had just been talking with Mrs. Sample and had barley returned to her apartments when she thought she heard something fall. Mrs. Lane immediatley went back to find out the cause of the noise and found Mrs. Sample lying on the floor between the stove and a couch, apparently dead. Dr. E. T. Morris was summoned, but to no avail, death having been instant, the result of apoplexy. Mr. Sample, who works in the Lentz table factory, was sent for at once. Mrs. Sample was about 73 years of age, and had been in poor heath for several months. Mrs. Sample had been a resident of Nashville for about forty years. During the greater part of this time she had been a faithful correspondent for this paper----surely we are going to miss her weekly visits and her friendly, kindly ways. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Nazarene church. No one in need ever failed to receive assistance from her willing hands. Although she has gone from her home and friends, yet we have this consolation, a beautiful home and golden reward have been prepared for her in heaven. Besides the aged husband, those left to mourn their loss are a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ella Sample of Grand Rapids, and several other relatives and a large circle of friends. The daughter-in-law came Tuesday evening. An only son, Wilsey, proceeded the mother in death by about a year. At the time The News goes to press it had been decided to hold the funeral from the Nazarene church at two o'clock this afternoon (Thursday) with intererment in Lakeview cemetery. Rev. Frank Houghtaling will officiate. (The Nashville News December 9, 1926)
