VanHouten, 73, of 111 W. Marshall Street, Hastings, died at 1:24 p.m. Monday, June 12, at Pennock Hospital. Services were held Wednesday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at the Leonard Osgood Funeral Home. Rev. Willard H. curtis officiated with burial in Oakridge Cemetery, Marshall. He was born in Grand Rapids on November 16, 1904, the son of Cornelius and Isabel (Gillette) VanHouten. He attended Grand Rapids schools, graduating with the 1924 Class of Central High School. He attended Western Michigan University for one year. He married Maurine Weaver on June 26, 1926. They lived in Grand Rapids until 1936 when they came to Hastings. He worked for a few years at the E.W. Bliss Company and worked more than 22 years at the Feldpausch Food Center, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a fromer member of the Hastings Kiwanis Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the TB and Emphysema Association of Barry County.
