MAURINE VANHOUTEN HASTINGS- C. Maurine VanHouten, 88 of 111 West Marshall Street, Hastings, passed away Sunday, February 27, 1994 at Pennock Hospital. Mrs. VanHouten was born in Elmira, Michigan the daughter of Charles and Ena (Moore) Weaver. She was raised in Elmira before moving to Hastings in 1921. She attended Elmira and Hastings Schools graduating in 1923 from Hastings High School, then went on to attend Western Michigan college in Kalamazoo. She was married to George E. VanHOuten on June 26, 1926. They lived in Grand Rapids for several years before returning to Hastings in 1936. Mrs. VanHouten was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Circle of the Church, Pennock Hospital Guild, and Hastings city Bank Horizon Club. Mrs. VanHouten is survived by two daughters and husbands; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister; one nephew. Preceding her in death was her husband, George on June 12, 1978. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 2, 1994 at Wren Funeral Home with Reverend Phillip L. Brown officiating. Burial at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association or charity of one’s choice.
