TEWKSBURY & HERCIE (DURKEE) DECKER Leo E. Tewksbury and Mrs. H. M. (Durkee) Decker were married Saturday afternoon at the Wealthy Street Baptist church in Grand Rapids by the Rev. Russell Houseman, pastor of the Hastings Baptist church. The couple was attended by the bride's son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Murray L. Decker, of Grand Rapids. The bridal couple left immediately following the ceremony on an Eastern wedding trip. After May 15 they will be at home to their friends at Locust Acres the suburban home of the groom near Hastings. ________________________________________________________________________________ Haskell-Shellenbarger--Mrs. Della Haskell, nee Sawdy, and Mr. Orville Shellenbarger, the youngest son of Julius Shellenbarger, were married last week. For the present the newly-weds will make their home with his father on the Cassell farm. Rev. Thos. Laity officiated, using the ring ceremony, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Meyers accompanied the couple. Only immediate relatives were present. The bride's gown was of white organdie, and her traveling suite of blue broadcloth. Directly after the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served, after which the left for a short trip east. Mrs. Lepard is the daughter of Daniel Fender of this place and is deservedly popular. She has been an employee of the postoffice for the past three years, and will be missed there. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lepard, living west of town, and is also well thought of. The couple will live on the Lepard farm, when they return home. _______________________________________________________________________________ FREDA MARSTON & FLOYD MYERS MARRIAGE The Free Methodist parsonage at Mt. Pleasant was the scene of the marriage of two of Blanchards' popular young people last Monday afternoon, when Miss Freda Marston, daughter of Mrs. Jessie Marston, was united in marriage to Mr. Stanley Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Myers, of the Pleasant View community. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mrs. Cody Butler, pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Free Methodist church. They were attended by Lloyd Murray and Florence McCarthy. The young people will be at home with the groom's parents for the present. The Banner joins in with their friends in wishing them a happy life together, [Feb. 8, 1932] __________________________________________________________________________________ COLON SCHAIBLY-GRACE INGRAM At four o'clock Christmas Day, at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Townsend, occurred the marriage of Miss Grace Elizabeth Ingram, daughter of Mrs. Roy Norton, to Colon Lee Schaibly, son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Schaibly. The single ring ceremony was performed by the groom's brother, the Rev. Kennard B. Schaibly of Alma, in the presence of about twenty-five guests. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Paul Smith, and Alan Dean of St. Johns, was best man. The bride was attired in royal blue metallic velvet, with silver sandals and wore a corsage of white gardenias. Mrs. Smith wore maroon chiffon velvet, with a corsage of white rose buds. The service was read in front of a lighted Christmas tree, with the bride and groom standing under mistletoe. Following the wedding refreshments of ice cream and cake were served, carrying out a pink and white color scheme. The dining room was decorated in pink and white, with the table centered with pink chrysanthemums and pink candles. The couple left that evening for a week or ten days honeymoon in the South. Mrs. Schaibly graduated from Woodland high school, class of '29, and is a graduate nurse of Christ's hospital in Cincinnati, where she will return to her work for a time. Mr. Schaibly is a teacher in junior high school, Kalamazoo. After discontinuing her work in Cincinnati, Mrs. Schaibly will join her husband in Kalamazoo, where they will reside. KENNARD SCHAIBLY A home wedding which was beautiful in its simplicity occurred Saturday, Sept. 8, at the home of the bride's parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. C. South at Huntington, Ind. when their youngest daughter Thelma was united in marriage to Kennard B. Schaibly of Woodland... The same afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Schaibly left for their new home in Alma, Mich where they will be at home at 320 West End St. after Oct. l... Both were members of the 1933 graduating class of Huntington College and took prominent parts in activities there. Mrs. Schaibly has been employed for the past year in the United Brethren Publishing establishment in Huntington. Both have had much preparation for their chosen career and will without a doubt be highly successful and happy in the work of their church. ___________________________________________________________________________________ GEORGE SCHAIBLY - MABEL WORTLEY [Newspaper article in scrapbook made by Climena Schaibly, now in possession of George Schaibly of Woodland, MI.] GEORGE SCHAIBLY AND MABEL WORTLEY SPEAK WEDDING VOWS At a very quiet and private wedding, Mr. George Schaibly of Woodland and Miss Mabel Wortley, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William Wortley of Carlton, spoke their wedding vows. The marriage ceremony was performed by the groom's brother, Rev. Kennard Schaibly in his home at Prairieville, last Saturday, December 2l. The bride's brother and wife, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Wortley of Wayland acted as attendants. Immediately following the ceremony they left for a two weeks' trip to Florida. After the first of the year they will be at home at the Schaibly residence, west of Woodland. The newlyweds are both graduates of Woodland high school in the class of 193l. Francis Peckins of Lyons, took place Wednesday morning, May 5 at 7 o'clock at the SS. Peter and Paul church in Ionia with the Rev. Fr. J. V. Coyle performing the ceremony. The couple was attended by Miss Ruth Manning and Gerald Fitzpatrick, both of Portland. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Barry of Hastings, and the groom is the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar C. Peckins of near Lyons. Immediately following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the Hotel Olds in Lansing. The young couple will spend a few days on a motor trip through the flood district and upon their return will make their home at the Peckins farm three miles south of Lyons. ___________________________________________________________________________________ VIRGINIA HESTERLY - CLIFFORD TOUSLEY Large ferns and baskets of yellow and white snapdragons and Dutch Iris formed the setting for the marriage of Miss Virginia Hesterly, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Hesterly, of West Woodland to Sgt. Clifford Tousley, son of Mrs. Jacob Tousley of Sheridan, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the home of the bride. The double ring ceremony was read by the Rev. Kennard Schaibly of Hopkins, uncle of the bride. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a soldier blue pin stripe spring suit with navy and white accessories. Her corsage was of white snap dragons and roses. Her only jewelry was a sweetheart locket, a gift of the groom. Her only attendant was her sister, Mrs. Eugene Blair of Allegan who wore an ensemble of blue with matching navy and white accessories. Her corsage was yellow daffodils and roses. Byron Hesterly, brother of the bride attended as best man. The bride's mother was attired in a dress of soldier blue crepe and wore a corsage of pink sweet peas. Mrs. Tousley, mother of the groom wore a cedar tan crepe dress and a corsage of mixed sweet peas. The ceremony was performed at the home of Rev. & Mrs. Harold J. King, with Rev. King officiating. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, of Allegan, former residents of Woodland and classmates of the bride, who graduated from Woodland High School in the Class of 1941, and last year attended Lansing Business University. September 1st, she began work in the Federal Loan Association office in Allegan. Mr. Blair is at present employed at Otsego, but they will reside in Allegan, where they will be at home to their friends at 504 Monroe St. Research: Marriage of Doris Hesterly to Eugene Blair in newspaper article from scrapbook made by Climena Schaibly, now in possession of George Schaibly of Woodland, MI BETTY MARTIN - BYRON HESTERLY The home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Martin was the scene of a pretty wedding, Sunday, September 5, when their daughter Betty Lou became the bride of Byron Hesterly son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hesterly of Woodland. The Rev. Kennard Schaibly, of Shepherd, uncle of the groom, read the double ring service in the presence of the immediate families. the bride chose a dust rose gabardine suit and a corsage of rapture roses and white mums. Miss Marilyn Martin was her sister's maid of honor and wore an aqua gabardine suit and corsage of roses and gladioli. Verdan Hesterly, brother of the groom, was best man. Immediately following the ceremony a reception for over 100 guests was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hesterly. Mrs. Clifford Tousley, sister of the groom served the wedding cake. Friends assisting with the serving were Mrs. Jason Thompson, Miss Doris Richards, Miss Lois Weaver, Miss Barbara Welton and Miss Dorothy Reid. The newly weds left on a wedding trip through northern Michigan. The bride is a graduate of Hastings High, class of 1948 and the groom a graduate of Woodland High, class of 1944. He is now engaged in farming. Leason Sharpe at the Presbyterian church at 4 o'clock, Sunday, June 18, Miss Dolores Arlayne McGlocklin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGlocklin, 135 W. Grand, became the bride of Ronald Hesterly, son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Hesterly, of Woodland. The traditional wedding music was rendered by Mrs. Reid Bassett at the organ and Keith Freeland as soloist. White roses, pink peonies and gladioli and candelabra were used at the alter. Dolores chose a gown fashioned of white bridal satin with a sweetheart neckline edged with nylon lace. Her long, fitted sleeves ended in points over her wrists, and her skirt had a short train that fell in full folds from a fitted bodice. Her finger-tip veil of nylon net hung from a cap of seed pearls, and she carried a Cascade bouquet of roses and lilies of the valley tied with white satin streamers. Her only jewelry was a string of pearls, the gift of the groom. Anita McGlocklin, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a floor length dress of aqua marquisette over aqua taffeta and carried a bouquet of yellow roses. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Audrey Shellenbarger, who wore blue taffeta, and Miss Joan Decker, pink taffeta. They each carried a bouquet of American Beauty roses tied with streamers to match their gowns. Pamela Havens, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a floor length dress of dotted Swiss with a wreath of matching carnations in her hair, and carried a basket of rose petals. Darwin Tate, nephew of the bride, dressed in a white gabardine suit, carried the rings on a white satin pillow. Galen Daniels performed the duties of best man and David McGlocklin and Herbert Hesterly were the ushers. Mrs. McGlocklin, mother of the bride, chose a French green silk dress with white accessories and her corsage was of red and white rosebuds. Mrs. Hesterly wore a brown crepe dress with matching accessories and a corsage of pink and white rosebuds. The reception followed the ceremony in the church parlors with Mrs. Walter Ryan, Mrs. D. Sharp and Christine McGlocklin serving. The four-tiered wedding cake was cut by Miss Virginia Warren. Mrs. Gordon Havens and Mrs. John Havens poured. Mr. and Mrs. Rexford Havens were here from Ypsilanti to act as master and mistress of ceremonies. For traveling, the bride wore an aqua gabardine suit with matching accessories, and a corsage from her bridal bouquet. The newlyweds will live in Lake Odessa when they return from their honeymoon spent in Northern Michigan. Out of town guests were present from Detroit, Ypsilanti, Grass Lake, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Woodland and Nashville.
