Fox/England, date of record: 2-15-1922F. H. MASON IS TAKEN BY DEATH --- HAD STATE WIDE REPUTATION AS DRILLER OF SALT AND OIL WELLS. Francis H. Mason, aged 67 died Thursday afternoon at his home, 2658 Military street. Mr. Mason was born in Saginaw March 17, 1854, and resided in that city for 60 years., taking up his residence in Port Huron in 1904. While a resident of Saginaw Mr. Mason was for many years engaged in the business of drilling salt wells. His first contract in Port Huron was to drill the mineral water well for the bath-house in connection with the Harrington hotel. Later Mr. Mason drilled wells for the former Port Huron Salt Co., now the Morton Salt Co. He retired from active business about seven years ago, and his well drilling business was continued by his sons Chester F., and John H. Mason. Mr. Mason's first wife was Miss Mary Patterson, whom he married in Saginaw in 1877. Mrs. Mason died in Port Huron in 1909. To them were born the following sons and daughter, all of whom survive the deceased: Mrs. Walter Wyeth, Chester F., and John F. Mason, all of this city. Several years ago Mr. Mason married Miss Ada L. Boyce, of this city who also survives the deceased. Other surviving relatives of Mr Mason are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Charlotte Watson, Detroit; Mrs. William Bauer, Saginaw; William J. Mason, Saginaw, Arthur Mason, Detroit, and several grandchildren. Mr. Mason was a member of Bay City lodge No. 129., F & A M.; Bay City Chapter, R.A.M.; Port Huron Commandery Knights Templar, and Moselem temple of the Shrine. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 oclock from the family residence on Military street, and will be under the auspices of Pine Grove Lodge, F. & A.M. with the Knights Templar as escort. Rev. Mr. Bowser will officiate at the services at the home. Mason Sunday Afternoon The funeral of F.H. Mason was held at the family residence, 2638 Military street, Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Pine Grove Lode No. 11, F. & A. M. had charge of the services. Mr. Mason was a member of Bay City Lodge, No. 139. The services at the grave were conducted by Worshipful Master J. H. Carrigan, Junior Warden H. A. Davis and Past Master Charles E. Frink. The pall bearers were H.W. Maines, Arthur Fraleigh, George Smith, Franklin Moore, S.C. McLouth, of Marine City, and Otto Huette. The honorary pall bearers were John Bell, E.D. Campbell, F.J. Dunford, Hamilton Irving, F.A. Halstead, and C.F. Huber. The commandery escorted the Blue lodge to Jenkinson street, where the members went to the cemetery in automobiles."
