Alpena News, Alpena, Michigan 3/20/1981
  Gilbert R. Metzgar, 68, of 11149 US-23-S, Ossineke, was pronounced dead on 
arrival at Alpena Hospital Thursday (March 19) at 6:50 p.m.
  Mr. Metzgar was born March 6, 1913 in Galien, Mich., and moved to Alpena from 
Bay City 13 years ago.  He married Clara Aldrich Jan. 22, 1955 in Freeland.
  Mr. Metzgar was self-employed as an insurance salesman and was semi-retired.  
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Alpena.
  Surviving are his wife, Clara: one son, Roger, of Houston, Texas; one 
daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Dale) Hecht of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; his mother, 
Mrs. Catherine Little of Kalkaska; and two sisters, Ernestine (Mrs. Dewey) 
Coutts of Delaware, Ohio and Dorothy (Mrs. Garfield) Weldon of Tampa, Fla.  A 
daughter, Mona, preceded him in death Sept. 1, 1977.
  Mr. Metzgar's body is at the Wachterhauser Funeral Home, where friends may 
call after noon Saturday.  The entire funeral service will be at the funeral 
home at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Sanford Wright officiating.
  Interment:  Garfield Township Cemetery, Pinconning.
  Memorials:  First Presbyterian Church memorial fund or Michigan Heart 
Association.
