Artemas Wright, Esq., an old and highly respectable citizen of Springfield, 
Illinois, and son-in-law of Col. Horace Johnson of this place, was 
accidentally killed by a rail road train in Springfield, on Monday the 21st of 
November. 
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Wright, well known to many of our people, and, we 
believe, two children by a former marriage, to lament his loss.
The Springfield Journal says: 
Few men were better known throughout this portion of the State than Mr. 
Wright. He was a native of Bernardston, Mass; and for forty-seven years had 
been a resident of this city. For a great number of years he had been a member 
of the Second Presbyterian Church, and at all times had contributed of his 
means for the advancement of the cause of religion in our midst. At a time 
when the cause of abolition of slavery was the most unpopular, and its 
advocacy worth almost a man’s life, he boldly proclaimed it to be the cause of 
religion and justice, and firmly believed that God in his overruling power 
would cause the right to triumph, and he lived to see his desires and wishes 
in this respect fulfilled
