Lorayne FRANKFORT — Iris Lorayne Case, of Frankfort, Venice, Fla., and formerly of Ovid, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at her son and daughter-in-law's home in Boyne City. She was born the daughter of Garland and Elsie (Kibby) Gilbert on July 23, 1930, in Frankfort. She married William Case on June 13, 1952. Lorayne taught school for five years in Indian River and later the Ovid-Elsie school system. She loved her students and was always very involved in school activities. After retiring in 1986, Bill and Lorayne moved to Venice, Fla., where they were quick to make many friends and were active in the Circle Woods home association where they lived. Lorayne was "Activities Leader" and was known for the fun and entertaining musical shows that she would direct and take part in that was enjoyed by all who attended. She spent her summers in Frankfort, where she took delight in working at the Cherry Hut and having her family visit for their vacations. Lorayne was always known for her bright smile, enthusiasm for life, and making others happy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in April 2000; her brother, Kenneth in December 2006; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marietta and Sherm Nelson. She is survived by her children, Mark (Barb) Case of Boyne City, Paul (Angie) Case of St. Johns and Mary (Jim) Quine of Dearborn. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Bill Case of Boyne City, Kathryn (Bryan) Bradford of Petoskey, Eric, Kara and Kayla Quine, all of Dearborn, and Samantha and Alec Case of St. Johns; great-grandson, Case William Bradford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard and Brenda Case, and sister-in-law, Kathryn Gilbert; cousin, Nancy Veldkamp; five nieces and two nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends at the McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home, Frankfort Chapel this evening, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Lorayne's life will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at First Congregational Church in Benzonia. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Michigan, P.O. Box 233, Boyne City, MI 49712; or the American Cancer Society.
