Fick, 82, of Frankfort, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born in Long Lake Township, the daughter of William R. and Lena M. (Betts) Carmien. Mabel spent the majority of her life in Benzonia and Beulah. On Oct. 20, 1938, in Ecorse, she married Dale W. Fick. Mabel was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Beulah where she was a former member of the vestry and altar guild. She was a member and past president of the Animal Welfare League, and a former chairperson for BACN, both in Benzie County. Mabel had been employed as a journalist for the Record Patriot, the librarian at the Beulah Library and as an information specialist for the Benzie Central Schools. Mabel is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Burleigh of Frankfort and Virginia Rhinesmith of Norton Shores, Mich.; four grandchildren, Caroline (James) Vincent, Heather Maier, Benjamin Rhinesmith and Elizabeth Helena Fick; four great-grandchildren, Lucas and Dominick Maier and Alexis and Joshua Vincent; and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dale Fick on Nov. 20, 1985, and her son, Sid in 1988; two brothers, Bruce and Bill; and three sisters, Vivien Collins, Edrie Moulder and Madge Hensel. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. from St. Philip's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Harold Comer, rector, officiating. Interment will follow in Benzonia Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Animal Welfare League or St. Philip's Episcopal Church. The Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes assisted the family.
